Buried on the TSA website in a news release about their new Secure Flight program. The program is to ease the security process for air travelers, but they haven’t yet got the process down yet, so it is causing more problems for travelers than making traveling easier.
The new Secure Flight has been assigned to four airlines to process people and flag them as possible threats. There is no listing of which airlines have been assigned to take on this new program.
Basically, the program works like this, a traveler makes a reservation and is now required to use their full proper name including middle names, their birth date and their gender. When they have completed their air travel reservations this information is sent from the airlines to the TSA who will do a security check, even before the travel ever arrives at the airport. If a traveler is clear of any security concerns, then they will breeze through the TSA security at the airport. Not accounting for long lines at the screening lines, but they may be directed to a special screener with a shorter line, because they have already been cleared.
There is so little information for travelers on this program, so it is hard to figure out if it is being used at all airports, what airlines have been assigned to do the pre-screening, and when the other airlines will be required to enact this with their reservations.
Time will tell if this will ease the security process, more information about this would be helpful for passengers, so we could all comply to what is needed to help make this work.
