The multiple cruise lines typically bring about 1 million visitors to Alaska annually for their short vacation season which runs from late May to early October. To get travelers to Alaska this year, cruise lines are discount their cruise costs up to 40 percent. Historically Alaska cruises are higher for two reasons – limited availability and a short high peak travel season.

Alaskan tourism is reporting a drop of 35% in hotel bookings as well, so travelers looking forward to taking advantage of a pre or post hotel stay while in Alaska for their cruise will find savings there as well.

The cruise lines are also adding extra value items to their reduced prices as incentives to travelers to book now. The incentives include upgrades to higher cabin categories, ship board credits or gifts such as wine or chocolate covered strawberries in the traveler cabins upon arrival.
