10 Hot Weather Vacation Tips

Summer is prime vacation season around the world, so here are a few tips to keep you safe and healthy if you are to enjoy a stay-cation or go away from home. Be well no matter where you roam!

1. Drink plenty of liquids – 2-4 glasses per hour of cool water is recommended

2. Try not  to drink only caffeinated or alcoholic beverage because they actually dehydrate the body

3. Keep cool inside if you can – resting inside for just a few hours in air conditioning can reduce heat related health issues

4. Plan outdoor activities around the heat – make plans for early mornings and early evenings to avoid the hottest part of the day

5. Avoid strenuous physical activities or schedule them during a cooler part of the day

6. Rest – heat is stressful on the body so rest often (nobody has to tell me twice to take a nap!)

7. Eat light – avoid heavy foods so the body doesn’t automatically increase your metabolic heat

8. Wear light cotton clothing so your body can breath and absorb moisture plus to shield your skin

9. Use sunscreen – sunburns keep your body at a higher temperature, so you’ll feel like you can’t cool off

10. Avoid being in a vehicle during the hottest part of the day – temperatures run hotter in a car, even with the air conditioning running.
