Planning your first cruise – getting fat on a cruise with all the food

In reality, if you indulge then you might gain a few pounds but you won’t necessarily bulge! Right now the hottest trend in cruise line cuisine is healthy eating. Most, if not all cruise lines offer a variety of  heart-healthy menus, low-carb entrees and low-sodium fare. Some actually have on-board spa cafes. And many have simply done away with midnight buffets, that longtime paean of absolute indulgence (after-dinner revelers can instead partake of hor d’oeuvre’s served in late-night venues).

There is still the midnight chocolate buffet on NCL but it is just one night per cruise.  If you do actually eat too much during one meal, take the stairs to and from your cabin if you can, visit the steam room in the spa, use the gym on board, take a dance lesson, take a walk along the cruise ships decks (they post how many times around equals 1 mile).

On any vacation, when not eating at home, we will all tend to eat what we might skip at home. But isn’t that what a vacation is for, to enjoy and be pampered? Just be careful and then burn off anything extra while having fun at the same time.
