When returning to the United States, American citizens may bring home a total of $800.00 (USD) of goods for personal use without having to pay duties or taxes. If you buy more than that, ship it home. You can send up to $200.00 (USD) of goods per day to yourself at a valid U.S. mailing address. You can also send duty-free gifts worth up to $100.00 (USD) per person, per day to people in the United States as well. Make these arrangements ahead of time with family and friends. Also make sure you ALWAYS insure your packages when you ship them in case of loss.
Think smart and remember that shipping companies such as FedEx, DHL and UPS always will charge based on the bulk or weight of each package, whichever costs more. So buy light unique items and pack those items efficiently to save on shipping costs.
